Busting OnlyFans myths

Feb 01, 2023

There are so many misconceptions and myths surrounding OnlyFans. I bet you had heard some of them before you started. Today I am busting these myths because - quite frankly - I call bullshit!

Let's not beat around the bush and get straight in with the one I hear all the time. This one is the reason most creators get into this industry in the first place.

“You will earn loads of money really quickly with OnlyFans”. Ok, so usually when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is and this is one of them things. DISCLAIMER: this does not mean that I am saying any creator who did earn a lot straight away is lying out of their ass, but rather this is rare. For every creator that made thousands their first month, there's hundreds of creators earning a small fraction of that amount. Take me for example, I earnt £420 my first month. Chances are these creators had a huge following and great social media presence to start with. If you are starting out with nothing, then the chances of you making a shit load of money straight away is incredibly slim. This also doesn’t mean you will never earn a lot of money - you will with hard work and consistency. Just don’t expect to be paying off your debt and buying a new car in your first week.

This follows nicely to the second most common myth we hear. “It’s easy, just take a few nudes and upload them”. Wouldn’t we LOVE for it to be that simple! If it was, everyone would be doing it and we would all be millionaires without the need for education, but that’s not realistic and that’s why there are courses out there like SX Creators to teach you all the techniques needed. You need good quality content. Noone wants to see a dark grainy titty pic. You also need to switch up ideas as there's only so many of your nudes in the same pose people want to see before they get bored. This is where having a niche helps greatly. It helps to expand your content and makes you become relatable to the subscriber. They can find naked women/men anywhere online, but there’s only one you so make sure to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

“You need to post sex tapes and other explicit content to make money”. This is a bad myth for people starting out to believe so lets start this one off by saying YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE EXPLICIT CONTENT OR ANYTHING YOU DON’T WANT TO ON ONLYFANS!! I know of soooo many creators who are successful and have never filmed a sex tape! What levels you post to are entirely up to you. There are no minimum requirements with OnlyFans. If you only want to do lingerie, that’s cool and if you want to do full on orgys, then slay! Don’t ever feel pressured by what other creators are doing or what a subscriber asks for. You are allowed to say no to anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Your page, your rules.

“It’s dangerous”. For most of this point, it is incorrect. You are working from a safe space of your choice (which is home for most of us) and you are working by your rules. Some people assume you are meeting subscribers when this is completely not the case. OnlyFans don’t allow you to use the word meet or to arrange to meet anyone. This line of work is online. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with risks as people can find out your real identity and potentially expose you but keep any personal details about yourself a secret and you will be safe.

My last bust, which is the one that makes me laugh the most is “they probably have loads of STI’s”. Majority of creators get frequently tested. A lot more often than people who aren’t in the industry. Those creators who don’t get tested, more than likely don’t work with others or only make content with their long term partner. Creators tend to have more in-depth tests rather than the ones at public sexual health clinics. It’s safer for creators to collaborate than it is to have a one night stand with someone from a bar.

I hope this has cleared up some of the things you may hear surrounding the industry and those who work in it. It’s not what it is perceived to be and this is why I aim to fight the stigmas towards sex work!
