What I learnt from losing my Instagram account

It’s been a while since I last posted a blog but life has got in the way a little. So much has happened!

It has been a month since our first Instagram account got suspended without warning. The account has not had any violations. All was good until one day it wasn’t.

This was where the emotional learning rollercoaster started. 

As we didn’t have a backup account, my team and I scrambled to get a new Instagram up and running as well as getting the word out that SX’s Instagram had been taken down. Thankfully my team has previously uploaded content to hand so we had content to upload straight away on to the new Instagram account. Because we didn’t have a backup account, we had to reach out on our other platforms to try and gain back our followers on Instagram.

The support we received was overwhelming! After an emotional plea in the form of a TikTok and support from the SW community, we managed to get over 1k followers back. 

This was great news to us however this was to also bring us another problem.

It is in my nature to show appreciation to those who show support. I was responding to everyone who had shared our post/new account, comments and DM’s of support until the second account got suspended!! I contacted Instagram who responded saying that my responses were of an amount that flagged up to Instagram that it was a bot account!

Looking back I can somewhat understand why it would flag up but I also think as it was genuine, it was stupid. Luckily, Instagram gave us the second account back within an hour or so.

Once we were done being punished by Instagram, we have been successful in growing the new account - yay!

Creators, if there's anything you can take away from my couple of days of Instagram misfortune, it’s to get yourself a back up account. You need a space/account/platform to fall back on should your account get suspended without warning.
